Modena is one of the richest cities in Italy, largely because it is home to the car manufacturers Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti and Lamborghini. The city was also the birthplace of tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
There are several intersting sights in town. The cathedral was dedicated to the Modena's patron saint, San Geminiano. The building's façade has 12th century bas reliefs by the sculptor Wiligelmo, depicting scenes from the Book of Genesis. The Palazzo dei Musei is home to several galleries, where you can see works by artists such as Bernini, Guido Reni and Correggio. The palazzo also contains the Biblioteca Estense, which holds one of Italy's most valuable collections of books, letters and manuscripts. It includes the medieval Bible of Boors d'Este, which was illustrated by Ferrarese artists and is considered the most ornate decorative bible in existence.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Modena. The town is 325 km northwest of Roma (Rome).
