Montego Bay is usually referred to as MoBay. It is Jamaica's second-largest city and lies on the northwest of the island. The thriving port city doubles as tourist resort and you'll find many Europeans and Americans on its beaches. MoBay has a horrific traffic problem, as most of its narrow, one-way streets are not capable of handling all of the city's cars.
There are numerous historic buildings in MoBay, including beautiful Georgian stone buildings and timber houses, but most visitors don't see them, as they never leave the narrow coastal strip, where all of the tourist facilities are concentrated. MoBay has a reputation of a hustlers' city and you'll be offered all sorts of drugs. Just try to ignore them and enjoy the city's excellent variety of arts and crafts.
All sorts of water-related activity is available, but the city's best beaches are owned by resort hotels and not freely accessible. There are also several golf courses in MoBay.
Montego Bay is a package tourist destination with countless hotels and restaurants in all price classes and varieties. The city boasts various good markets and a lively nightlife scene. MoBay is 130 km northwest of Kingston.
