Nakuru is Kenya's fourth largest city. It is in the center of a farming area, 140 km northwest from Nairobi, on the main road to Uganda. It is also 140 km from Kisumu in the west. Nakuru is on a railroad junction, one branch of the track goes to Uganda while the other runs to Kisumu on Lake Victoria. There is not much to see in Nakuru, but it is a good place to stay if you want to take trips to nearby Lake Nakuru National Park, the Menengai Crater or Hyrax Hill Prehistoric Site. In the main square is an interesting market where you can find good bargains on handicrafts.

There is plenty of accommodation in Nakuru and there are numerous bars and restaurants. The bus, train and matatu (minibus) stations are all situated in the east of town. Nakuru has connections to all main places in the area as well as Nairobi and Kisumu.
