The Northwest Cape is a peninsula that juts into the Indian Ocean, about halfway Western Australia's western coast. The Ningaloo Reef runs for some 260 km along the western shore of the Cape. At some places it is only several hundred meters offshore.
There are two national parks in the Northwest Cape. The Ningaloo Marine Park includes parts of the Ningaloo Reef and offers opportunities to see dugongs, humpback whales, manta rays, turtles, whale sharks and a large variety of colorful fish. The Cape Range National Park covers large parts of the peninsula. It has a rugged scenery and it includes several good beaches, as well as some gorges and a wide variety of flora and fauna, including the rare black-footed wallaby. Diving excursions and tours are available at Coral Bay and Exmouth.
The Northwest Cape is some 1100 km north of Perth and 3650 km northwest of Canberra.
