Nukulaelae Atoll

The Nukulaelae Atoll consists of two-dozen islets that host one of the only remaining pre-Christian worship sites in Tuvalu, a large altar stone standing in the bush. The people on the atoll are quite friendly, despite the fact that Peruvians kidnapped almost 70% of the population in the middle of the 19th century. The main town on the Nukulaelae Atoll is Fangaua.

Some accommodation is available on the atoll. Nukulaelae is 120 km (75 miles) southeast of Funafuti. The only feasible way to get there is by private boat.
