Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya used to be one of the most popular hill stations of the British and it still retains the vestiges of Empire. There are numerous buildings that were erected in a blend of Tudor and Georgian architecture and boast gabled roofs. Immaculate lawns with rose bushes and moss-covered gravestones add to that sensation.

Nuwara Eliya's Hill Club includes a golf course, as well as tennis courts. There are nice botanic gardens not far from town and the surrounding hills are covered with tea plantations.

There are several hotels and restaurants in Nuwara Eliya. The town has regular bus connections with both Colombo and Kandy If you prefer the train, you'll need to get off at Nanu Oya and take a bus or taxi from there. Nuwara Eliya is 100 km east of Colombo.
