Petrified Forest

40 km west from Khorixas are the petrified remains of a 200 million-year-old forest. It is believed the trees didn't grow here but where washed away from their original place by a huge flood. The petrified tree trunks are found scattered all over the place, with details of bark and wood superbly preserved.
Follow the signs 'Versteende Woud' on the C39 road. The guards at the gate expect a small fee and will show you around.
