Pine Bluff is a port and trade center in an agricultural region on the Arkansas River. The city has industries that produce electric transformers, wood and paper products, textiles and cottonseed oil. The town is also a research center and the seat of the University of Arkansas. The huge Pine Bluff Arsenal, north of town, is of economic importance to the city. The arsenal was established during World War II and is the center of U.S. army chemical, biological and toxicological research. Pine Bluff has an arts and science center and a civic complex designed by Edward Durell Stone.
Pine Bluff is in central Arkansas, 60 km southeast from Little Rock and 1450 km southwest from Washington D.C. Accommodation and restaurants are available in town.
