Rock Island

The city of Rock Island is on the Mississippi and Rock rivers, adjacent to Moline and opposite Davenport, Iowa, which is on the other side of the river. Together with Bettendorf in Iowa, these cities form the regional economic unit of the Quad Cities.

Rock Island is a trade, transportation and industrial center. Machinery, metal and wood products, as well as clothing are among its many manufactures. Railroad maintenance is also an important industry. Rock Island is the seat of Augustana College. Black Hawk State Park adjoins the city and nearby is Arsenal Island.

Rock Island is in northwestern Illinois, 200 km northwest from Springfield and 1230 km west from Washington D.C.
