On three sides the scenic fishing town of Rovinj is surrounded by the sea dotted with the 13 islands of the Rovinj archipelago, while wooded hills are on the fourth side. There are many cobbled streets, lined with beautiful, Italian style buildings.
Rovinj is dominated by the Cathedral of St Euphemia and its 57 m (187 ft) high tower. It is the largest baroque building on the Istrian peninsula. Every year on 16 September devotees commemorate St Euphemia there. She died in 300 AD in Constantinople and 500 years later her remains were brought to Rovinj. Her tomb is in the cathedral.
The aquarium in Rovinj is one of the oldest in Croatia. It was founded at the end of the 19th century and features a good range of local marine life. South of Rovinj is the Punta Corrente Forest Park, a nice place to relax.
There are many hotels and restaurants in Rovinj. The town has bus connections with most other places in Croatia and during the summer months there are ferry connections with Trieste in Italy.
