Selkirk



Selkirk was named for the 5th earl of Selkirk, who established the Red River Settlements in the region in 1812. Selkirk is an important port for products from northern Manitoba. There are steel mills, foundries and shipyards in town.

There are several hotels and restaurants. Selkirk is on the Red River in the southeast of Manitoba, 50 km northeast of Winnipeg, 1630 km west of Ottawa and just south of Lake Winnipeg.
