Shekhawati
Shekhawati is a desert region several hundred kilometers east of Delhi. Merchants that supplied caravans with necessities used their fortunes to built beautifully painted havelis (traditional mansions). Nowadays the trading posts have lost their importance, but the havelis still stand and the area is known as 'the open-air gallery of Rajasthan'.
The area is also home to several castles, wells, mosques, chhatris (tombs), as well as the Rajasthan fort. Fatehpur, Mandawa, Jhunjhunu and Sikar are the main towns in Shekhawati.
