The 130,000 km²-large state of Tamil Nadu was the center of Dravidian culture and the cradle of the exaggeratingly ornate style of building Hindu temples. Tamil Nadu state is strictly vegetarian, and efforts to make Hindi the national language of India have always stranded on strong opposition from the Tamil population in the region.
