Union Island
Union Island is the country's southernmost island. Most people use Union Island as a jumping off point to visit the Tobago Cays, rather than visiting the island as such. Union Island is a rocky and dry place, covered with thorny shrub and cacti. It measures only 5 km (3 miles) at its widest point. The laid back town of Clifton is the island's commercial center. Ashton on the island's southern coast is a nice village with a truly West Indian atmosphere. On the northern side of Union Island are the two remote bays of Belmont and Richmond.
Accommodation is available in both towns. Union Island is some 70 km south of Kingstown.
