The Valley of the Kings has three main temples, Deir el Bahani, Medinet Habu and the Temple of Hatshepsut. In the Valley of the Kings are numerous tombs, including the one of Tutankhamun, which was discovered intact by Howard Carter on 4 November 1922. Most items from that tomb are now displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

The Valley of the Kings is some 500 km south from Cairo. It can best be visited on a day trip from Luxor, which is only several kilometers to the east, on the other bank of the Nile.
