Vianden

Vianden is a small town, with an ancient center, with numerous old houses, many of which date from the 9th century. Between Easter and half-October a chairlift runs up to the top of a nearby hill. From the hills there are excellent views over Vianden and it's central plateau. Vianden was home to French author Victor Hugo in the 1860's during the period he was exiled from France.

There are many hotels and restaurants in Vianden and the town gets very busy with tourists during the summer. Vianden is in the Luxembourg Ardennes, on the border with Germany, 36 km northeast from the city of Luxembourg. Vianden can be reached by train from the capital. It will take you as far as Ettelbrück, but there you'll have to transfer to a connectiing bus.
