Río Orinoco

The Orinoco River is the third longest in South America, stretching about 2150 km (1333 miles) from its source near the Brazilian border to its large flooded delta on the northeastern coast.

There are countless forested islands in the river's delta, which are home to the Warao people. They live near the riverbanks, in houses on stilts to protect them from rising waters. The Warao are fishing people and they usually get around in canoes.

One of the larger and most interesting cities on the Orinoco is Ciudad Bolívar (formerly Angostura).
